New Book Shelf

Look what's on our new book shelf! #newbooks

It's the summer of 1982, and for Scott and Cath, everything is about to change.
Growing up across the street from each other, Scott and Cath have been best friends for most of their lives. Now they've graduated high school, and Cath is off to college while Scott stays at home trying to get his band off the ground. Neither of them realized that their first year after high school would be so hard.
Fortunately, Scott and Cath still have each other, and it's through their letters that they survive heartache, annoying roommates, family dramas, and the pressure of figuring out what to do with the rest of their lives. And through it all, they realize that the only person they've ever wanted to turn to is each other. But does that mean they should think about being more than friends? One thing is clear, Change is an inescapable part of growing up, and we share unbreakable bonds with the friends who help us navigate it.
This funny, extraordinary, and deeply moving book―set to an awesome '80s soundtrack―captures all the beautiful confusion and emotional intensity we find on the verge of adulthood...and first love.

What you missed and books

We had a blast this past T.A.B meeting playing hide and seek. We also picked the programs for the summer and it looks like lots of fun things (almost all include food). Next T.A.B we are play testing some of the games for Game On this summer.

Now for the books. What is everyone reading (if you are)? I just started An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. This name is keeping in with the book that destroyed me a few months ago, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. So far I really like Colin, he is witty, sarcastic and a bit of a cynic which is always a plus in my book. Leave a comment below on what you are reading (or don't up to you). No more Teen events this month but my door is always open if you want to just come hang out or have questions!

Hope to see you at the next T.A.B (March 1st) or before then!

Things you've missed!

Teen Advisory Board was last night and we had a lot of fun. These are some pictures we took. We talked about programs for the summer, revamping the Teen Blog, and then we just hung out and played some games. Not bad for an hour of community service I'd say. Next meeting will be February 15th @ 7 pm, hope to see you there!

New Year, New Beginnings

Hello,
my name is Tiffany Riggins and I'm the new Teen and Teen Volunteer Services Librarian here at Helen Hall Public Library. A little about myself, I grew up in Southwestern Virginia and have lived in Alabama and Tennessee. I graduated Longwood University’s Graphic Design program May 2014. I recently graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi with my MLIS, Youth Services Graduate Certificate, and Archival Studies Graduate Certificate. I have two cats Juju Binx and Kaylee. My favorite book at the moment is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

I am very excited to be here and my door is always open if you need anything or just want to talk! ðŸ™‚
